Updated: Jul 12, 2023

Whether you are at home due to stay-at home-orders or working from home. It is important to find ways to remain productive and optimistic during this challenging time. Here are 6 easy low-cost ways to maximize your time at home.

Set Daily Goals

Write down 2-3 attainable things you plan to accomplish for the day. Ex. Rearrange office, update website, take an online course (more on that later), etc.

Develop a Routine

Being at home can be difficult because there are so many distractions and temptations, such as, binge-watching the latest Netflix series, sleeping late, scrolling social media. While being at home can feel like watching paint dry, finding creative ways to maximize your day can work wonders. Try to develop a daily routine that helps you be productive and active. Ex. create a morning routine to get a head start on the day, set break times, etc.

Read or Play Brain Games

To help get your mental juices flowing, reading and brain games can do just the trick. Find a quiet room or space in your home to sit back and crack open a good book. If reading isn't your thing, how about playing a game of Scrabble, Sudoku or completing a crossword puzzle? These free and easy to do activities will keep the mind agile and stimulated.

Spring Cleaning

Now is a perfect opportunity to complete those long-awaited spring-cleaning projects. From DIY home improvement projects to decluttering your apartment, there is no better time than the present to get some of those items crossed off your to-do list. Do you have any clothes, electronics, books or appliances that you haven't used in more than a year? This is a good time to donate items that you no longer use.

Take an Online Course

Have you been wanting to learn a new skill or get certified in a specific industry? Taking online courses is an effective way to obtain valuable information and develop practical skills. From learning how to write computer code to learning the fundamentals of graphic design, online learning is a great tool to use to maximize your time at home.

Exercise

Because many of us are stuck in the house it is easy for us to get comfortable and put off exercising until later. However daily exercise is vitally important, especially now given our current health crisis. Remaining physically active helps keep our mental and physical health in check. Whether it's going for a jog, walk or jumping rope. Doing something daily to get the heart rate up and blood flowing is a free dose of medicine we can give ourselves.
